the last few months have been particularly tricky mental health wise and it’s made it SO hard to manage day-to-day life, let alone uni work. i’m usually too proud to ask for extensions, but my dissertation is a massive project and something i care about an awful lot, so i knew i’d need to ask for an extension if i wanted to give the me that signed up for the unit a fighting chance to shine. it’s scary to ask favours (particularly if you’re an over thinker/people pleaser like me), but it’s also one of the kindest things you can do for yourself when you’re struggling. and often people will surprise you — they’re more forgiving, caring, and willing to help than you expect.
i had to ask for a second extension on the project last week (a real nail in the coffin kinda moment for me) and i really did fear the worst. instead, i’m lucky to have a supervisor who is endlessly patient, kind, and supportive cheering me on, and a course coordinator that’s fighting to get me the extra time i need. this is your sign to do the scary thing and give yourself the gift of time whenever you can and especially when you need it most!!
