Split focus = split capacity. As tempted as I am to do all the things (or even just think of all things), it’s the quickest shortcut to an ADHD meltdown.
Happened before you realised things were tipping into overwhelm territory? That’s okay, you’re not gonna get it right every time!! For me, some signs I’ve started multitasking include:
jumping between tabs/apps/devices
rushing/desperately speeding through tasks like brushing my hair, putting on makeup, buttering toast
dropping/banging into/forgetting things as I go
physically glitching haha (e.g. when i’m pulled between two tasks, sometimes I’ll be stuck on the spot for a few seconds turning one way then the other on repeat until I decide what to do first)
speed dialled internal monologue and “blurry” thoughts
feeling short of breath, panicked, like I have a lump in my throat, or like I need to cry
feeling overstimulated (e.g. noise sensitive, unable to wear my rings, upset by people interrupting me)
Slowing down and working intentionally might feel like you’re “wasting time”, but I promise doing and thinking of everything at once loses you far more when it costs you valuable energy and time to recover from a mid-day spiral.
F%ck capitalism. Take it one task at a time, friend <3
